Zürich, Switzerland: Avery Dennison, a global materials science and digital identification solutions company, has joined Emerald as a limited partner (LP). As part of the collaboration, Avery Dennison aims to meet its strategic innovation and sustainability goals via partnerships with cutting-edge startups in the materials, decarbonization and circular economy sectors.
Headquartered in Ohio, Avery Dennison has announced ambitious sustainability and climate targets, including a 70% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions from scopes 1 and 2 and 30% from scope 3, with an aim to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. By 2030, it also intends to divert 95% of its waste away from landfills and ensure 100% of standard products meet one or more sustainability and circularity standards.
The Emerald partnership will help Avery Dennison meet these goals by fueling its corporate venture capital efforts. These include a startup accelerator nurturing promising young companies developing breakthroughs in sustainable packaging. Key pillars in the company’s sustainability strategy transformation include accelerating innovation in RFID-based intelligent labels and in base materials and products designed for reuse and recyclability.
“The Avery Dennison collaboration is a testament to Emerald’s two decade-plus track record of creating value for its partners on their sustainability journeys,” says Fredric Petit, partner in Sustainable Packaging at Emerald. “Avery Dennison has a formidable presence in this space that gives it the muscle to produce sustainable packaging solutions via tie-ups with small and nimble disruptors.”
“We continue to demonstrate our commitment to supporting value-creating innovations that drive a sustainable future,” says Hassan Rmaile, president, Materials Group WW, Avery Dennison. “We recognize that finding solutions to our industry’s most pressing challenges will require both collaborative partnerships and financial investments. Through our partnership with Emerald, we intend to provide catalytic capital in technologies that enhance the overall industry and build next-gen solutions for sustainability, new materials and industrial technologies.”
