Zürich, Switzerland: Lam Capital, the venture group of semiconductor equipment manufacturer Lam Research Corporation, has joined Emerald’s industrial transformation fund as a limited partner (LP). It is the first venture group of a semiconductor company to join Emerald as an LP, signifying Emerald’s deepening role as a force for transformation in the sectors at the foundation of the global economy.
Emerald plans to help Lam Capital pursue partnerships with startups that have a high potential to positively impact sustainability and develop disruptive process and equipment technologies in semiconductor manufacturing. This includes:
- Digital: Efficiency-improving software solutions to optimize system design, performance, and maintenance
- Advanced Materials: novel semiconductor processing and electronic materials
- Waste Treatment and Recovery: recovery, purification, and reuse of process chemistries, and minimization of liquid waste streams
- Energy Efficiency: novel solutions to reduce carbon intensity of semiconductor wafer fabrication equipment
Emerald works closely with Lam Capital for technology landscaping, innovation partner identification and assessment, and investment activities particularly in North America and the European Union. Emerald and Lam Capital will seek opportunities to leverage semiconductor and semiconductor-related technologies for broader societal impact, and source novel sustainable technologies from diverse industries to address emerging challenges in semiconductor manufacturing.
