Frank Balas
Investment Director - Energy
Frank Balas is an investment director at Emerald Technology Ventures in our Toronto office focusing on energy, transportation and IoT. He is involved in all phases of the investment process from origination through, diligence and the exit process.
During is tenure at Emerald, Frank has served on a number boards including PowerHouse Dynamics (energy management company acquired by Middleby), Visedo Oy (heavy vehicle electric drives acquired by Danfoss) and GeoDigital (GIS informatics whose spinout Usher was acquired by Dynamic Map Platform).
Prior to joining Emerald, Frank consulted in renewable energy, managed the engine design team at Capstone Turbine through that company’s IPO and held various positions at Pratt & Whitney and Rolls-Royce.
Frank holds an engineering degree from McGill University and an MBA from HEC Montreal. He is fluent in English, French and German.
